I want to preface that this article was by no means easy to write, both in regards of personal experience and in terms of content. And ironically enough, it was these two elements that led to a re-write.

I believe issues with our mental health have its roots in our developmental stages of life. That being said, originally, I had something else that was completely written that detailed a journey beginning from the developmental years that really got broken down to foundational components that discussed factors like abuse, isolation, and self-blame. However, while I wanted to illustrate that, I felt the message of showing the evolving relationship with mental health and the intention of depicting the stages behind mental health issues like depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation were easily getting lost in the details. So, I decided to scrap what I originally wrote (it may come later in some other form, but not now) and opted in for a “day in the life” approach to this journey. While not representative of the experiences ALL people who struggle with their mental health go through, here’s a first-person view of what that life can look like through the eyes of a single person…
