I think every one of us at one point or another had heroes we looked up to. When we envisioned them, we drew strength, and pretty soon after that, we imagined them becoming our older-selves. We sought to embody the very heroes we looked up to. This is a quote that sums up the person I aspire to become—the very best version of myself, a hero of my own story.
My name is Kim, beloved daughter, loyal friend and avid seeker of truth and growth. I grew up as an only child raised in a Ghanaian-American home. My family for the most part has always been kind of small since most of our family is still in Ghana. For much of my life, I was raised in a single-parent household by my mother, which seemed to hammer that small-family feeling home. However, there was no lack of love from both of my parents, even despite the hardships and differences. Seeing my mom, go through what she did raising me with very few people to help her, I believe shaped me to grow up earlier in life by being willing to take on certain responsibilities at a younger age than most of my peers as well as becoming keen on finding/building the right support systems.
Growing up, I was a great observer and inquisitor of the world around me. Even while working to achieve more conventional goals, I still found myself questioning conventional forms of thought and practice, like why we never learned applicable life skills in school along with the basics, or why every problem seemed to have only one answer and one way of solving it, or even why it always took seeing something to believe it to be real. After I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology, these questions only became bigger in a world that was continually forcing me into a smaller box. It was around this time that proved to be one of my bigger turning points in life because by a very thin thread I became acquainted with my mentors and my world began to expand.
Right now, I’m balancing my life, my job in the human resources industry and my part-time writing ventures. When I have down time, I like reading, writing, cooking, being in nature, jamming out to music, and spending time with friends and family.
My mission for this blog is to create a space to share think-pieces on lessons and observations which can hopefully be helpful in your journey to expand your world while providing some tips and guidance on life along the way. In my opinion, life is way too short to outsource your time and energy so casually and pursue things that aren’t in-line with your greater vision. You may find some current thought-processes being challenged, and nothing wrong with being conventional. However, I believe life is anything BUT that. Everyone’s journey is different so naturally a person should have a few options or paths to customize their life around.
The more resources you arm yourself with, the better. Afterall, not many heroes typically venture out on their quest naked. Get yourself some armor!
